Wisdom, the Midway albatross is the oldest documented bird in the world at 60+ years of age (and counting!). Her nest is on the island of Midway in Japan. When the Japanese tsunami hit on March 11, 2011, she was in extreme danger! Wisdom, by Darcy Pattison and illustrated by Kitty Harvill, tells the breathtaking story of her survival of manmade and natural disasters over the past 60 years, including but not limited to longline fishing and pollution.

Among the birds of the world, this amazing albatross is still laying eggs and hatching chicks. Its ecology is unique and its life is a story of survival and hope in the midst of difficulties and struggles.

For those not in the know, an Albatross (British spelling Albatros) is a large sea-bird found in the Pacific and the south Atlantic oceans. Albatrosses generally feed on cephalopods, fish, and crustaceans; they are generally surface feeders.

The Right Definition of Child Obesity

Childhood obesity has been one of the biggest controversial issues that nations have to deal with. It is bad when we have adults that are obese, but when we have kids that are obese it creates a major problem for our society. Something is not right, there is no reason why children should be overweight, we should be guiding our children in the right direction but it is obvious that this is not something that most parents are doing. The obesity definition would be considered a disorder in which the body fat content has become so high that it will start to create health problems or increase the chances of serious health problems. In the United Stated the percentage of obese children has more than doubled over the last few decades. But this is very similar in other countries as well, countries such and China and England have seen child obesity increase to 20%, this is why this is now a global challenge that must be fixed before it only gets worse for many generations to come.
